We all know how every increase in the price of fuel adds to our weekly and monthly expense. It affects the number of trips we can enjoy with our family; it affects the number of pleasure rides we are able to take etc. The way the oil prices are increasing is causing many people to find alternative ways of increasing the efficiency of the vehicles they use.

Now there is nothing the people can do about the rising fuel prices, however there are a few things we all can do to increase the fuel efficiency of our vehicles.

Some people think that putting less fuel and going back to the gas station as and when the fuel is required, is a good way to save money. This is an incorrect practice and tends to increase wastage of time and fuel due the extra trips that you make to the gas station. Even if the gas station is near your house you are still wasting that time and fuel.

The people who don't pay attention to the engines of the cars tend to cause extra fuel consumption. A lot of gas gets wasted when the engine of the cars and other vehicles are clogged up or dirty. With the dirt and pollution which is found these days, the clogging of the car engines is no surprise. Since we know that the car engine does get dirty we just to pay attention to it and clean it up so that we can save fuel.

Many people keep the tires under inflated for reasons only known to them. If people can make sure their tires are inflated to the optimum level as prescribed in the user guide of their cars, they would end up saving a lot of money.

Many people continue to keep their bikes loaded on the roof of the car even when they are not regularly going for biking. If you are not biking regularly then reduce that extra weight that you are making the car carry, it will put less load on the car's engine and increase the fuel efficiency. Most people like to speed up and then have to apply the brakes suddenly. In addition to this many people drive bumper to bumper and this too results in frequent braking. Whenever a person applies the brakes he is causing a little extra fuel consumption in the car. Now if we drive at a moderate speed, maintain some distance with the vehicle ahead of us, then we would need to apply the brakes less frequently which would result in the increase of fuel efficiency.

To be able to save fuel and make the vehicles fuel efficient we don't need to be engineers, we just have to follow the basics. These are some simple tips which people often miss out on. If everyone can pay attention to these basic tips and follow them religiously, they can actually save a lot of money by increasing the fuel efficiency of their cars.
