You are going to have to have regular engine maintenance performed, keeping the body cleaned and waxed, and the most important part of the body is the care of the top.
Care of Fabric Tops
Fabric tops need specialized cleaning products, you should select the product that is specially made for fabric tops, the manufacturers have certain recommendations of which is best, you should follow their advice to ensure proper maintenance.
Use a medium bristle brush when washing your top, avoiding any glossy shampoos, they provide no extra benefits and are unnecessary. Gently scrub to remove any dirt from the top, making sure to only use the brush on the top and no other part of the car. Make sure to mark the brush you use on the top as not to confuse it with other brushes, such as the brushes use on the tires, which will avoid contaminating your fabric with dirt from other areas of the convertible.
Once the top is clean and dry, choose a good protectant for your top, and apply by spraying on to one section at a time, working the product into the fabric using a cloth of microfiber. This will protect the water-repellent chemicals that are used when the fabric tops are manufactured. Do not over soak, if you do and a pool forms, work the pool into the untouched areas.
Vinyl Tops
Use only gentle car shampoo and gently was the top the same you would the rest of your convertible. Despite your best efforts, you may notice mold build up in certain places on the vinyl, this is normal, simply spot clean with a specialized vinyl top cleaner before normal washing. These cleaners will also help prevent future mold growth.
Use a protectant specially designed for vinyl tops, this will help prevent cracking and peeling, however, if there is already damage, it is usually irreversible.
Making sure to keep your car and top clean and protected will ensure that any damage or further damage will occur. Keep up with regular cleaning and maintenance; you should be able to enjoy your convertible for many years to come.
