Car dents are definitely among the major problems of car owners. They make the car look old and decrease the value of the car. Car owners also don't like to be driving with a dent on their car all the time. But car dents can really cost a fortune for the owners. In order for the car owners to avoid such problem, there are different ways to work on the car dent without bringing the car to a repair shop. It may be unbelievable but you can remove the dents on your car by yourself (DIY). Be aware that you will devote a lot of your time if you want to do the job in your own garage.
Basically, there are two steps to remove car dents and restore the original look of your car. The two steps are restoring the affected panel and restoring the original look of your car. Restoring the affected area can be done in different ways depending on the case of the dent. Simple dents can be removed by pushing from the inside using your hands. This is possible since these dents are soft and you can even remove them without using any tool. But in case the dent cannot be pushed by using your hands, you can use a wood and a mallet to push the dent from the inside of the car. You just need to place the wood outside and start pushing using the mallet from the inside. Accuracy is very important so that you will not further damage your car body. You also need to exert effort to push the dent.
The dents that are located in a part where you can't access the inside of the car and push the dent are the most difficult ones to repair. You can drill a 1/8-inch hole at the center of the dent and insert a screw so that you can pull the dent from the outside. You need to use a self-locking vice grip so that you can pull the dent out. The next step is to remove the paint and fill it with a body filler. You can shape the surface once the filler is hard and then use a sandpaper to smoothen the surface. Remember to use a coarse sandpaper first and finish it with a fine sandpaper.
After you removed the dent, it is now time to restore the original look of the body. You can do this by repainting your car. The first thing that you should do is to apply a spray primer on the affected area. The primer should be applied several times before you can apply a paint on the area. When you repaint the car, you also need to apply several coats and you need to use a fine sandpaper before you apply the next coat.
Restoring the original look of your car can be challenging but it will give you a lot of savings. You can also buy complete repair kits that will help you repair your car on your own. Most of these kits don't require you to drill on the dent so that further damage will be prevented.
