Many people want to increase their endurance, speed and overall strength but are not sure how to do so. Here are a few ideas on workouts and means of getting into better shape to help become stronger.

Weigh yourself on the first day of your workout routine as well as throughout the first week. You should lift weights, but it is recommended that a person not lift more than 25% of their own body weight for the first 7 days. This will help build endurance so that you can work out longer in the future. This should be done for 2 weeks with a day off in between each session or over the equivalent of 7 sessions so that muscles can rebuild.

Choose a workout that will benefit your body type. If you are overweight, it is best to begin with your weight before trying to build strength, which means endurance training first. This means taking on cardiovascular exercises that help with muscles and the heart before starting with one muscle group to work on like the arms or legs.

To build strength quickly you will need a month of steady workouts, and this is a lot faster than most other people need with a regular workout for strength building. Beginning with endurance exercises will help you to work out longer and then you can move on to building your muscles for strength.

Muscle building workouts will require you to put on additional weight to the workout equipment so that you break down your muscles and then allow them to rebuild stronger. For arms, this could require you to do more sets and higher repetitions like push ups or hand weights. For the legs, you could add more lunges with ankle weights and leg lifts in higher numbers of repetitions and sets.

Once you have done this for a week, raise the weight limit you are lifting and begin again. Doing this over a 4 week period will help you to have a stronger heart, longer endurance and an overall stronger muscle group. It is best to work at one muscle group at a time in order to give the proper attention needed with a short term workout.

Since proteins are the major building blocks of every cell in your body including those of the muscles, it is important to have protein in your diet to keep muscles healthy when you are working out. When muscles break down due to exercise, they must have protein to get stronger and rebuild.

When exercising regularly, the proteins are broken down in the muscle so that they are able to rebuild. It is important to replace those proteins with a new source, or the body will pull protein from other areas that need it as well causing a deficiency in many cases. So it is very important to eat after a work out routine and replenish the body.

Green leafy vegetables such as spinach, fish, turkey and chicken are all high in protein. Some fish like tuna and salmon have more protein and will help to rebuild the muscles faster than other foods. If you decide to eat canned tuna, try to find it in water and not in oil.
